In this post, I am going to teach you HOW TO DRAW CARTOON PEOPLE IN MY STYLE. A style is the different features used to make a unique looking character to a specific artist. Since this is my style, I ask that if you use this tutorial to draw something, that you CREDIT ME. Thank you! Let's begin: The first step is to draw the EYES. It is important to draw the features of the face first so everything is proportional. If you are worried about making the eyes too big or too small, you can lightly draw a circle to show the approximate size of the face, you'll just have to erase it later. Eye shapes can vary based on what character you are drawing, just be sure to keep the same eyes consistent. I tend to make girls' eyes more rounded and guys' eyes with sharper arches. Also, make sure both pupils are pointing the same way! The next step is to draw EYEBROWS. Eyebrows show the most emotion of any feature on the face. Raised eyebrows give a look of surprise, happiness, or excitement. Lowered eyebrows give a sense of worry, anger, or sadness. Eyebrows can also be different shapes and sizes, I typically match the arch of the eyebrow to the top curve of the eye. Next, we will draw the NOSE. For noses, I just draw a curving line from the eyebrow, and then form a point with the other side. Make sure to shade the nose well as it is made up of mostly shadows. You must SHAPE THE FACE before drawing the mouth to avoid making the chin too long. Focus on cheekbones, jawline, and a ponouced chin. Now, we will draw the MOUTH. Start by placing the peak of the lips just under the nose. Then draw a line on either side to form the smile. Draw a small curve underneath to suggest the bottom lip. The last step is to shade the top lip. If your character is wearing lipstick, you can also shade the bottom lip to make them appear fuller. The next step is EARS. The shape is variable, but I tend to shape the top in a rounded triangle and then curve them down to become flush with the cheek. The ear should start around the top of the eye and end around the top of the lips. Add a wavy line inside to show dimension. Now, we will shape the NECK AND SHOULDERS. This is done before the hair in case the hair will cover part of the neck and make it hard to add later. The neck is just two, vertical lines coming down from the face. Guys' necks tend to be wider, and girls' necks tend to be slimmer, but be careful not to make it too big or too small. The shoulders curve away from the neck. Next, we can add HAIR. The most important tip to keep in mind is that each strand of hair needs to be going in the same direction as the rest of the hair. Draw the individual lines, and not just one, colored in mass of "hair". When you go to draw the BODY, focus on proportions and you should be fine. From the feet to the waist should be about the same length as the waist to the eyebrows. Make sure your character doesn't end up having a really big face that narrows to tiny feet. Do not be afraid to make the feet longer than you think they should be. The last step is drawing the HANDS. This can be the hardest part for some people, but just start by drawing a trapezoid and then add fingers. It's really easy if you think about the shapes. All in all, keep practicing and working on developing a style of your own... there's no "wrong" way to draw, just find a style that you like and are comfortable drawing!
